Different people work differently when they cook. Some people are very exact and stick to the exact recipe, down to the last quarter teaspoon. Others like to take a recipe and make it their own. Here are five tips on how to handle recipes.
- Make sure to read the recipe before you start it. Line up your ingredients, and make substitution for items you don't like.
- Go with the flow. You're a good cook; relax and make changes. You know you can!
- Taste as you go. Remember that if the food is going to cook down, like soup, you'll want to under-season as the results will be very concentrated.
- Unless you're a chemist, stick to the basics of the recipe when you cook. Substitute choclate chips for nuts or dried apples for raisins, but don't change the amounts or the basic ingredients.
- Don't compromise on quality! You're putting your time and love into this, so make it worth it!
